New York
Living in New York, a lot of what Jill writes about exudes New York. She was brought into journalism writing about the city for the Village Voice and she's never really wanted to stop. Sure some of her work is national, but she's still writing it as a kid from Brooklyn, who now lives in Manhattan. |

Here are two articles Jill wrote for The Wall Street Journal. The first is about how New York City dominated at all three national scholastic tournaments last spring. Pictured here are the Panda Pawns, from P.S. 124 in Chinatown, who took on players twice their age and won their division at the national high school tournament in Nashville.
"DALLAS—When 10-year-old Drew French slid his rook down the center of the board to checkmate his opponent, it sealed the victory for his P.S. 166 team during last weekend's National Elementary School Chess Championships...." "New York teams are so dominant, they might as well call this the state championships," Matthew Noble, a chess coach at a school in Tucson, said during the tournament in Dallas. New York Magazine pieces explore some of those unpredictable characters you find off the beaten path in the Big Apple. This one is about someone on the beaten path of the NY City subway but using it in an unusual way: Man Moves Apartment By Subway Time Out NY Kids - Inside New York from a kid's eye view. |
Cross Currents - These athletes get their feet wet in New York's waterways. They've had plenty of adventures which makes great copy for the NYC Swim's "Cross Currents."
